Tina Fey’s audiobook Bossypants is what I listen to lately during my commute to and from work. There are lots of interesting nugget of information (and she uses the word ‘nugget’ quite often) in the book. Nuggets like the golden rule of improv comedy, weird (and gross) toilet etiquette of Saturday Night Live’s male staffs, and the golden nugget of all: .that Reese’s peanut butter cup was made by accident. Eh? Accident? I’ve been the biggest fan of Reese Butter cups, but this nugget of information I never heard of. I did some poking around on the internet, starting with Wikipedia and also visiting Hershey’s official Reese Peanut Butter Website. I was not able to verify that information.
Accident or not, I still think chocolate and peanut butter are the best combination. After listening to Tina, I felt like eating the peanut butter on my cupboard straight from its jar. If I start this binge I can’t stop, and even though peanut butter is relatively low carb, you still need to moderate your intake. 1 tbsp of peanut butter is about 3g net carb.
When I get the sudden urge to binge on a peanut butter, I try to make my low carb peanut butter cookies. Tonight, I didn’t really measure my ingredients (because I’m lazy), so the batter ended up way too runny. A good rule of thumb when you are baking a cookie is that you can scoop it up and roll it in a ball. Because this was impossible with my lazy batch, I decided to baked them in a silicone cup instead.
They turned out to be yummy, and it was almost like eating a non-chocolate coated Reese Peanut Butter Cup. One thing you need to be careful is that you need to wait until it cools down – otherwise you are eating a gooey warm peanut butter (which is tasty too, but you don’t get the same satisfaction that you’ll get from eating a chunky peanut butter cookie. So you’ll end up eating more. Like I did – 2 cups already down!).
On a side note, Tina Fey may have gotten the impression that Reese’s Peanut Butter was a creation from accident from this family guy episode. Accident or not, peanut butter + chocolate = BEST.DESSERT.EVER.
